Hutchinson Community College (HutchCC) has been awarded a $708,965 FRAME Grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce to create affordable housing and give students hands-on construction experience.
Through this project, students in HutchCC’s Construction Technology program—along with USD 308’s Career and Technical Education Academy—will build a duplex on East Avenue A from the ground up. They’ll gain real-world experience in everything from laying foundations to finishing work.
HutchCC is also partnering with Interfaith Housing and Community Services to build a single-family home on 10th Avenue, employing Youth Apprentices as part of the effort. Local partners include the City of Hutchinson, the Chamber of Commerce, Interfaith Housing, GAF Roofing, and several local contractors.
Construction begins this fall, with all projects expected to wrap up by 2026—helping students build not just homes, but bright futures in construction.
