Fort Hays Tech | Northwest's Construction Technology program prepares students for real-world jobs in residential construction by combining classroom instruction with hands-on experience. Students learn the full building process, from reading blueprints and estimating materials to framing, finish carpentry, and understanding building codes. Safety, proper tool use, and technical math are all part of the curriculum, giving graduates a strong foundation in both knowledge and skill. The program also stays current with industry trends, including energy-efficient and green building practices, so students are prepared for today’s job sites.
One of the most exciting parts of the program is the opportunity to help build an entire house from start to finish. This real-world experience allows students to apply what they’ve learned in class while developing teamwork, problem-solving, and time-management skills that employers value.
Graduates can earn a Technical Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree and are prepared for immediate employment in residential construction. Career opportunities include carpentry, framing, construction crew leadership, and pathways toward becoming a licensed contractor.
This program is a great fit for individuals who enjoy working with their hands, seeing tangible results, and building something that lasts. Financial assistance, including the Kansas Promise Act Scholarship for eligible students, may be available. If you’re ready to build your future, Fort Hays Tech | Northwest’s Construction Technology program can help you get started.
