Looking for a high-tech, hands-on career path? Flint Hills Technical College’s Industrial Engineering Technology (IET) program offers two clear routes to get you into manufacturing, automation, and maintenance.
What You'll Learn: You’ll build a strong foundation in electrical systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, and industrial automation. You’ll also dive into mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and motor controls. Whether you’re maintaining equipment or improving production systems, you’ll be prepared to jump into a technical role with confidence.
Certificate or Associate Degree Options: Choose the path that fits your goals. The Technical Certificate can be completed in about one year, giving you job-ready skills fast. Or, go for the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree—a two-year option that includes general education credits and additional certifications like OSHA-10, setting you up for long-term growth and leadership roles.
Career-Ready with Hands-On Experience: You won’t just sit in a classroom—you’ll work in labs, operate real equipment, and gain problem-solving skills that apply directly to the field. You’ll also complete a First Year Experience course designed to strengthen soft skills like communication and teamwork, which employers love.
Flexible, Inclusive, and Accessible: Hybrid course options combine online learning with in-person lab time. Select courses are available in Spanish, making this program more inclusive and accessible for Spanish-speaking students. High school juniors and seniors can also earn college credit early through dual credit enrollment.
Graduates are in demand in maintenance, automation, and manufacturing roles across Kansas, and many are hired before they even finish. Plus, your degree can transfer into a 2+2 bachelor’s program at select Kansas universities.
