At Highland Community College, the Precision Agriculture program combines traditional farming knowledge with cutting-edge technology. Students learn to use data to increase yields, reduce waste, and make environmentally responsible decisions that sustain farms for generations to come.

The Precision Ag program, offered at Highland's campuses at Baileyville and Atchison, provides flexible options for both full-time and part-time students. Learners can choose a pace that fits their lives—earning a certificate in as little as one year or an Associate of Applied Science degree with additional coursework.

Students gain hands-on experience from day one. Each fall, they work alongside local farmers during harvest, running advanced equipment and solving real-world challenges in real time. Using drones, they collect images to create detailed soil maps and make data-driven recommendations for area producers. In spring, they return to the fields to help with planting—putting their classroom learning to work. Precision Ag students also benefit from strong local partnerships that lead to internships and job placements with cooperatives, seed dealers, and agronomy companies. The job market is thriving, with graduates finding opportunities as technicians, field service specialists, consultants, and even business owners.

Want to take the leap, but don't have your diploma or GED? This program is Accelerating Opportunities in Kansas (AO-K) eligible, meaning you could earn the credential alongside your GED! Additional supports like tutoring, career coaching, test prep, and check-ins from AO-K coordinators make it possible to build both credentials and confidence—opening doors to a rewarding career in agriculture.
